GERMANY BOUND: And I Need Some Destinations

I found out today that I will be getting sent over to Germany in the next 3 weeks. I'll be there for about a 2 month stay, working on a few design projects at our office in Esslingen. I'm pretty stoked about it. I'm already trying to plan out how I can get on a motorcycle while I'm there, to do some touring.

I'm in search of some "must see" destinations, so if any of you are savy to the area, please, shoot me some ideas. I'd love to hear from you. Motorcycle inspired destinations get extra points.

  1. The industrial park landscape parks around Duisburg are amazing...the whole rust belt of germany there has been transformed into these amazing modern day versions of central park. There are many in the ruhr valley and you can either cycle between them or use transit, but if you can get your hand on a motorbike that would be a great ride too...but come to think of it, if your looking for twisty roads this may not be your best bet

  2. That sounds like a good weekend trip. I'll have to look into it, thanks.

  3. If you are near Duisburg, you are not too far from Xanten. If history is your thing: The (re)build parts of a real Roman city on top of the ruins of that city. The town of Xanten itself is nice too!

  4. It looks like I'm about 4.5 hours from there. Esslingen is right near Stuttgart.

  5. my grandparents on my mum's side of the family live near Heidelberg, which is not that far from you - Heidelberg is a gorgeous city, and the surrounding forests and mountains (the "Odenwald") are popular along motorcyclists

  6. If you are still in Germany, you have to visit the German Motorcycle-Museum! You won't regret it!
