GEAR: Red Wing Heritage 875 Oro-Legacy

875 Moc Toe in Oro-Legacy

About 7 weeks ago I picked up these 875's at a Red Wing Heritage event in Chicago. For the event Red Wing branded a handful of the boots with the IL state outline on the inner ankle. I was lucky enough to take a pair home and have been wearing them since.

After 7 weeks of shop time and a few camping trips they earned their first cleaning and conditioning. I first use Fiebing's Saddle Soap to clean them. The saddle soap wont remove the oils and dry out the leather like a common soap would. I use the same soap and the rough side of a dish sponge to scrub the soles. Let them dry over night. Then I work in some Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP. They recommend doing it with your hands because the warmth helps the conditioner soak into the boots. After that hit it with low heat from a hair dryer to help it settle in. Here's the before and after results:

They're a bit dark right now but will lighten up as the conditioner drys. The above products work great and leave your boots smelling like a leather candle...in the best way.
