PROJECT SR250: Sizing Her Up

The rough assembly process has begun. This past weekend we got the rear end put together and the engine in. This is just to check clearances of the new parts and to mock up the new wiring harness and battery box. Then it will be another full tear down for prep, paint and finishing.

  2. Was unsure of the big front wheel, but seeing everything mocked up.... how did I ever doubt you. Sorry. I can't wait to see this build completed!

On a side note. After coming across your blog and following your SR build. I've been inspired to customize my old bike, a 1989 Honda CD250U that I've been wondering what to do with for the past 2 years since the engine developed issues (I had to purchase anther bike for daily transport). I'm planning to completely strip and rebuild the engine. Ideally I'd like to try and bore it out as close to 300cc as possible. I'm leaning towards going down the cafe racer route, as I think that's what will suit it the most.

I'm in the process of getting ideas together in my head and would like to create a blog (similar to yours) to track it's build and progress. Are there any tips that you can give me when approaching/starting a build?

    1. I get asked this question almost weekly, so I think I'm going to do a write up on how to approach your first build. Stay tuned!

    1. Mine (green one) is a vintage shield from the 70's, but Biltwell sells new ones.

  4. Hi, I've wonder what happened to your r65 project? Just curious, cause going to start my own r65 '83 project soon as possible.

    1. The R65 isn't really a project of mine. It's more of just a friends bike we work on time to time.

That being said, it's been sitting in parts in my garage for months now, so maybe when the SR is done I'll try to take it off his hands.

    2. Dear David was it difficult to fit the bridgestones on the standard rims? I would love to fit the same tires on my factory sr 250 rims.

      Kind regards from the Netherlands,

    3. Danijel,

Fitting the tires to the rims was not a problem, however the clearance between the tire and the chain is an issue you'll need to work around. (about 5mm)
